Great Falls Fixture Photo Plus Closes its Doors After 25 Years

After being a fixture in the Electric City for 25 years, one Great Falls business has closed its doors. Central Avenue said goodbye to Photo Plus over the weekend. John Godwin opened the doors to his downtown shop three years ago and when he realized his lease was up at the end of March, he decided it was time to close down.

Godwin says a lot has changed since he first opened his doors. He says most people have digital cameras now so the volume of his work has decreased significantly over the years. But he says when he announced the store would be closing down, he did not realize how big of an impact it would have on the community. He says the support has been overwhelming.

Godwin says, "The cards and letters keep coming in and people stop in to give you a hug. You don't realize how much you value that. Anybody that does business in Great Falls, you just need to be aware how much the community supports you. Sometimes you take that for granted. You're just working, zoom, zoom, zoom, trying to get things done so stop, breathe and take a minute and thank your customers."

Godwin says he is holding on to all of his files and the phone number for Photo Plus will now forward calls to his home in case anyone wants a copy of a picture he has taken over the past 25 years.
