Crow Tribe May Buy/Lease Hardin Jail

The Crow Tribe is considering buying or leasing Hardin's long-vacant Two Rivers Detention Center and turning it into a drug and alcohol treatment facility.
Tribal Chairman Cedric Black Eagle said Monday the proposal is in the early planning stages but that talks are under way between the tribe and Hardin representatives.
Black Eagle says the U.S. departments of Justice and Interior also have been involved.
The jail has sat empty since it was built in 2007.
The $27 million economic development project has turned into an embarrassment for rural Hardin and a potential financial liability.
City officials two years ago rejected a similar proposal by the Crow as a stealth attempt to annex part of Hardin, about 45 miles east of Billings.
