Ursuline Center Showcasing Art of the Religious West in Great Falls

By KFBB News Team

As part of Western Art Week, the Ursuline Center is showcasing its collection of “Art of the Religious West”.

The tour includes stops in the building's roof top art studio, which served as a classroom for students at the one-time boarding school, and in the building's chapel and heritage museum. The tour features artwork painted both by students and the school's long-time art teacher.

Kristi Scott, spokesperson for the Ursuline Center, says, “Mother Raphael Schweda, who entered the Ursuline order out in St. Peters in 1912, taught art here at the center for fifty years. Most of the pieces of art that we see were created by her, but there are several pieces that were created by children were taught be her, as Russell's career was receding, the Ursuline sisters were teaching young artists in Great Falls.”

Some of the art on display has been featured at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. The building and art tour is free and you can stop by anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
