High Schoolers Learn New Mediums at Western Art Week

This was the first year the C.M. Russell Art Auction opened hands-on art seminars to high schoolers, known as the "Kid" Russell Program, and around 75 students from several different schools were ready to scrape away at learning new mediums from western art pros.

High school art student Brandon Fry was thrilled for his chance to experience Western Art Week and learn clayboard engraving techniques from a professional artist like Ron Ukrainetz.

During today's clayboard class, Ukrainetz was more than happy to share his over 26 years of experience with these developing artists.

Clayboard engraving isn't a medium most high school art students have much opportunity studying. In one hour and a half class, Ukrainetz is hoping to leave his students with the basics.

And even though today's in-class pieces may not be featured in this year art auction, learning new meduims, even ones you don't plan to master, can help you grow as a career artist.
