President Obama Signs Jobs Bill: Will Great Falls Benefit?

By KFBB News Team

President Obama signed into law a package of tax breaks that he hopes will give the nation a boost when it comes to jobs. While some economists say the bill could create 250,000 jobs by the end of the year, critics sharply disagree.

Mr. Obama says the legislation will help the private sector start hiring again. President Obama signed the measure which yesterday passed the senate yesterday by a vote of 68-29.

The bill provides tax breaks for small businesses who hire new employees, as well as those who keep employees on the payroll for a year. Here in Great Falls, jobs experts spoke about the potential for creating jobs locally.

“It has the potential to open up some opportunities,” said Barbary Hardy of Great Falls Job Service. “The state is introduces a lot of legislation as well.”

Hardy adds the number of people who visited the Great Falls Job Service in January was a thousand more than January of 2009. But she does say that orders have increased of late, especially with more seasonal jobs like construction starting this month.
