PPL Montana: Rainbow Dam Construction on Schedule

By KFBB News Team

Construction on the Rainbow Dam that will help boost its generating power is right on schedule.

The work on the dam, located northeast of Great Falls, began back in October. Last week, workers were pouring concrete as work continues on a new powerhouse. The current powerhouse holds eight turbines and generates 37 megawatts of power. The new powerhouse will have only one turbine, but will generate 62 megawatts of power. That's enough energy to power 45-thousand homes.

The Rainbow Dam was built in 1909 and PPL Montana plans to celebrate the dam's 100th anniversary in July.
