Medical Marijuana: Protest as Meeting With City Commissioners Draws Near

By KFBB News Team

It's a topic that's created a heated debate across the treasure state…as Great Falls City Commissioners come closer to making a decision about medical marijuana, dozens took to the streets this afternoon to drive their message home

Dozens of supporters of medical marijuana gathered in Gibson Park this afternoon. Their goal, to show the people of Great Falls that medical marijuana can be used to treat debilitating diseases. They fear that the city of great falls will place a ban on it and want stricter laws.

Under the Montana Medical Marijuana Act you can legally obtain cannabis if you have a physicians recommendation to treat chronic disease. But with anything the grey areas are under attack and advocates will voice their opinions to city council this Tuesday. Supporters fear that the city of Great Falls will ban medical marijuana and they want to make stricter laws so everyone feels at ease.

Becky Clark-Darko, a supporter of medical marijuana says “I just don’t want it to be banned if there's going to be regulations then I think we need to abide by them, we need to give and take, work with them and they work with us. We need to get this law set there aren’t any grey areas so we can take care of this professionally so we aren’t known as Cheech and Chong.”

The grey areas being brought up include laws on driving while under the influence of cannabis, the age of the smoker and the specific reason as to why medical marijuana is being obtained.

Many that oppose medical marijuana claim that green cards are being issued to people who don't have a medical reason for the marijuana.

There are some serious loopholes in the law. My pothead brother in law got his chiropractor to write him a medical marijuana perscription. All because his back was out. How messed up is that? There is mega fraud waste and abuse with this issue.

Cocaine is organic, oh and so is heroin. Maybe we should legalize drunk driving, because it's a personal choice. That way we would spend so much less money prosecuting those cases and training law enforcement and the jails would not be too crowded.

What a waste of time, this commission is no different than any of the previous. They worry only of their fiefdom. Not of the peoples wishes, just look at the fireworks ordinance or the pet ordinance. or the ridiculous water rates or the coal plant or how about closing a swimming pool but continue to subsidize golf. I could go on and on. they are not representative of the majority, just the noisy minority.
