Couple Travels by Wagon through Montana to Raise Money for Veterans

If you were driving down Highway 87 near Stanford today, you probably noticed a covered wagon rolling along the side of the road.

The old-fashioned travelers are a couple from Wyoming that are hoping to take their wagon and their fundraiser through Montana, and onto Alaska.

It's a journey of a thousand miles, that's taking Mike and Sheila Haveman through wide open country. But traveling by wagon sometimes means rolling along busy state highways.

Mike and Sheila had been planning a wagon trip from their home in Ranchester, Wyoming to Skagway, Alaska for almost ten years. But when they met veteran Jim Gussler, the Havemans found their reason to ride.

In April, the Havemans took their converted sheep wagon and hit the road, living out of small space with only a stove and bed.

After facing a dose of harsh spring weather, the couple has needed all of the well wishes and help they've received along the way.

And even though Alaska may be many miles and many months away, they hope to return to Wyoming in October with new memories and new equipment for the state's older veterans.

The Havemans should arrive in Great Falls sometime on Wednesday.
