Indian Law Resource Center Receives International Award

By KFBB News Team

A Helena based resource center is being honored with an international award.

The Indian Law Resource Center is one of three recipients in this year's Justice Prize from the Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation.

The $500,000 dollar prize honors organizations and individuals for championing the rights of indigenous people through advocacy, legal reform and the development of international law.

The Indian Law Resource Center offers free legal assistance to Indian Nations, Alaskan Nations and Hawaii Natives.

Executive Director of the Indian Law Resource Center says “I think the foundation was looking at the advocacy of the UN deceleration of the rights of indigenous peoples, we began that work over 30 years ago.”

The center shares this year's award with Australian judge Michael Kirby, and Attorney and Author John Dugard.
