Blanketeers Sew For Charity

About 10 women woke up and chose to spend their Saturday morning sewing to help the Linus Project provide blankets for children in need.

Project Linus is named after the Peanuts comic strip character who was comforted by his blanket. Linus volunteers work to give that same security for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need.

Every third Saturday, blanketeers gather at the Black Eagle Moose Lodge to knit, crochet, and sew quilts from morning to mid-afternoon. Last year they made about 1,100 blankets and distributed them to kids around Montana from West Yellowstone to Cutbank.


"That's what we're trying to do is give kids that blanket," Great Falls Project Linus Coordinator Gina Loss said. "They can make a fort, they can make a princess tiara out of it, they can use it however they want. It gives them something comfortable something soft, something they can hang on to and hug them back in times of crisis."

Most of the fabrics are bought with the help of donations. The project's coordinator says people who want to help from home can pick up fabric and bring the completed blanket in when they're finished.
