CCHD Wins $40k Grant

By KFBB News Team

Residents in Great falls can look forward to more winter fitness opportunities. The Cascade City-County Health Department now has $40,000 to invest in those.

Recently the health department was chosen out of 15 communities in 17 states for a $40,000 grant. The grant was provided by the National Association of City and County Health officials to promote public health.

Over the next two years CCHD will be building partnerships with groups like Get Fit Great Falls and the Parks and Recreation Department.

A big goal is to raise public awareness about the harmful affects of tobacco, poor nutrition, and physical inactivity.

"In our climate, a lot of times in the winter time, people don't get outside and get active," said Great Falls Park and Recreation Deputy Director Patty Rearden. "So one of our goals is to try to provide facilities at low or no to community members, so that should be something that they immediately recognize."

The complete streets resolution is one of the areas the grant will serve by funding expansion of streets to accommodate pedestrians and bikers.
