Candidates Put Campaign Signs Up

By KFBB News Team

With the primaries over, this weekend marks the first time candidates can put up signs for the November elections. NewsChannel 5 followed two candidates around town as they put up signs in supporter's lawns. Lindsay Love is the democrat running for House District 25 in the state legislature. Jesse O'Hara is running unopposed as the republican candidate in House District 18, which covers the southwest part of Great Falls.

Just like real estate, O’Hara says the most important thing is location, location, location. Saying, “You definitely want a well travelled artery, street, avenue to put them on, that’s the most advantageous.” He says his favorite spots are on corners, but tries to get them in as many yards as possible. “You got to get around and have the people be able to visit with you about their concerns,” he says.

Even running unopposed, the incumbent believes signs are important. “It isn’t as if, if you don’t have an opponent, you don’t have anything to do,” O’Hara says.

First time candidate Love, uses a similar strategy. “It’s just a process of divide and conquer get a good group of people together that are willing to plant a few signs and pretty soon the whole neighborhood is covered,” she says.

She spends her time meeting people, and sharing her platform. Saying, “It’s a great first step and a good way to build relationships.” Making those relationships is important because she says the state legislature is the most accessible form of government. “These House seats really are seats for the community, so it’s important we engage as many people as possible in the process,” Love says.

O’Hara says his main platform is bringing jobs to Great Falls and Montana, but medical marijuana is also a hot topic for both candidates. “My first choice would be to repeal it, I don’t think the people meant it to be so goofed up,” O’Hara says. “I think now, it’s up to the legislature to set up the framework and the guidelines so that we have a comprehensive way to deal with medical marijuana. Make sure we know how it affects our communities, our neighborhoods, our law enforcement officials, our children and our schools,” Love says.

It’s important to point out Cleve Loney is the republican candidate running against Love in House District 25 which covers the Riverview area. We will continue coverage of a variety of the candidates as the November elections approach.
