Carroll College Remembers Well-Known Professor

In Helena, a tragic accident over the weekend has the Carroll College community saying goodbye to a well-known professor. News Channel 5 spoke with students and faculty today.

Although classes aren't in session today, student's thoughts are back in the classroom reminiscing about their professor Dr. Jerry Pohlman.

"Very knowledgeable business professor, I had him for Macro-Economics and he really seemed to know what he was talking about and he was really able to convey the principals of economics to his students very well,” says Senior Nick Ryhajlo.

Freshman Nikole Drummond says "he was always explaining something in a new way."

"He treated us like adults,” adds Sophomore Vance Bosch.

The 68-year old Chairman of the Business, Accounting and Economics Department at Carroll College drowned in the Missouri river Saturday after a raft he was in capsized. As the news traveled around campus, students were trying to wrap their heads around the tragedy.

"Right now it's just very weird, I just heard about it this morning; I don't know what I’m going to do when I go to class on Wednesday," says Bosch.

Ryhajlo adds "it’s just difficult to believe he's no longer with us."

The 2010-2011 school year was only a couple weeks underway, yet students say Pohlman made an impact and they wanted more class time.

"It sucks, there's no way to cut it because he was the one teacher I wanted to be my advisor, he inspired me to do a double major in economics, even though I only had him for the first couple weeks of school. It just sucks because I wanted to have him for a lot longer," says Drummond.

The Department of Business Faculty says they are shocked and stunned. They add that Dr. Pohlman will be sorely missed and right now they are trying to pick up the pieces and move forward - trying to figure out what to do with his classes.
