Cell Ban Signs Are Out, Drivers Can be Cited

Drivers who use their cell phones in the capitol city can now be officially cited without warning.

Helena's distracted driving ordinance went into effect on December 7th, but for the past month, drivers have been receiving warnings.

Now, drivers can be fined up to $100 for using cell phones in the car.

Hands free devices are still OK to use.

Last week, 16 signs were installed at sites around Helena and at city entrances.

The Helena School District has also bought a number of signs to put up around schools.

The new law's warning period officially ended on Saturday, and it is now considered to be a primary offense.

So, so true.I agree.When your in control of a 2000 Lb piece of machinery all your attention should be focused on that and other drivers around you. NOT a phone conversation or message that could have waited until you were stopped some where off the road or at home period.Please, Please bring that law to Great Falls.

Its about time! Now if Great Falls can follow suit. There is absoultly no reason you have to talk on the phone while driving. Is your call more important, or you and others lives around you? You can always return a phone call, you cant return a life you just squashed due to you could not wait toyap on the phone till you got home!
