Drowning Victim Identified as Carroll College Professor

By KFBB News Team

The 68-year-old Helena man who drowned near Tower Rock State Park Saturday has been identified as Dr. Jerry Pohlman.

Dr. Pohlman was a professor of Economics and the Chair of the Business Department at Carroll College.

The Cascade Fire Department, QRUs, FWP, and Cascade County Search and Rescue were called in to help around 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.

Officials say Dr. Pohlman was in a raft with three other people, when it hit the pillar of a bridge and capsized.

Pohlman wasn't wearing a life jacket, and was carried about a quarter of a mile down the river.

Residents near the area performed CPR before Mercy Flight arrived, but it was too late.

According to the Cascade County Sheriff's Office, alcohol was not a factor in this drowning.
