Families Presented with MT Neighbor Award

Three ranching families were presented today with the Montana Neighbor Awards.

Governor Schweitzer presented the awards to Lisa and Mike Bay of Wolf Creek, Jim Dinsmore of Hall, and Irene and John Weaver of Ovando.

Among many qualities, award winners must demonstrate an exceptional level of conservation ethic and community leadership.

Schweitzer says, "Sometimes people forget how important their neighbors are. But those of you who are gathered here today, you know how important your neighbor is. And Montana wants to honor those good neighbors."

Lisa and Mike Bay comment, “It's really humbling and also we were a little embarrassed because we think there's plenty of people who have done as much or more than we have."

Irene and John Weaver say, "It's something we never dreamt of. Don’t know they ever had such a thing, but work at it every day I guess you could say."

"Awards aren't what it's about. Not that they aren't appreciated. They are, but I have a lot of neighbors that probably deserve it much more than I do," says Jim Dinsmore.

Winners were chosen from a committee of many different Montana organizations.

They each received the award certificate that is signed by the governor and members of the awards committee.
