Great Falls Comes Together to Celebrate Black Heritage

The community gathered Thursday night to celebrate Black History Month and the heritage of Great Falls' African American community for an evening of poignant thoughts, song and dance.

The program was co-sponsored by the Alma Smith Jacobs Foundation and highlighted African American culture and history.

Jude Smith, Public Relations Officer at the library, says, “every culture has so much to offer and is so rich that if we focus on only one small part of it, the history or the work done , we miss out on a lot of other things and our understanding can’t deepen”.

Cuisine and music were a big part of the night. The event features performances by the Great Falls Community Gospel Choir, Malmstrom Men's Ensemble and Hip Hop dancing by Spirit Dancers.

Mayor Michael Winters, University of Great Falls Professor Mimi Anthony, Bob Harris and Ken Robison spoke to the large crowd that gathered at the Great Falls Public Library.
