Helena High Wins Big Sky Regional Science Bowl

By KFBB News Team

Helena High School will be representing the Big Sky Region at a national math and science competition.

Over the weekend, a team of 5 students from Helena High won the Big Sky Regional Science Bowl.

They beat out 25 other Montana teams to take home the honor.

The science bowl is made up of head to head competition in quick question and answer format.

It seeks to encourage high schools kids to excel in math and science to possibly pursue careers in those subjects.

Jerry McCarthy, coach of the Helena High team, says, “It’s indicative of program we have here at Helena High School. The entire math department, science department, and the entire school for that matter produces some kids that are really knowledgeable, that are eager to learn, and that love to compete at this kind of level.”

In late April, they'll be one of more than 77 regional winners to compete in the finals of the Department of Energy's 22nd Annual National Science Bowl.

The competition will be in Washington DC, and the team will have all expenses paid for.
