Hurd Tennis Courts to Be Re-Built

By KFBB News Team

The Elks Riverside Park is currently home to four run-down tennis courts that haven't been usable in a while, but the re-building of the Hurd Courts is expected to begin this month.

The Utah-based Tennis and Track Company will be using a newer technology to pave the tennis courts in a way that could help prevent cracks.

The contract to rebuild the courts comes in at a price tag of around $286,000.

The city and The Great Falls Tennis Association were just over $39,000 short to begin the project, but they recently received a $40,000 dollar donation from Pacific Steel and Recycling.

The courts will be re-paved using a post-tension slab, which will have steel cables running through the concrete.

The goal is to have the Hurd Tennis Courts complete in time for tournaments scheduled to take place in May. But first, the contract has to be officially approved by the city commission, which could happen as soon as Tuesday.

There are also plans to build an additional four tennis courts in the park once the funding is available.

$286,000? Really? For Tennis Courts? I'll bet Bill Gates didn't pay that much for his! Then you want to put in four more? Is it just me or are the inmates running the assylum? Great Falls needs to focus on reality; how many virtually inpassable city streets could be fixed with that money? We live in a city that can't afford its existing infrastructure but keeps adding to it anyway. QUIT spending my money!
