Juneau to Run for Re-Election

By KFBB News Team

Today, Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau announced her intent to run for re-election.

The Democrat made her formal announcement at the Capitol Building.

Juneau cited her Graduation Matters program and the first ever state advisory board as some of her major accomplishments as superintendent.

Graduation Matters seeks to decrease Montana’s high school dropout rate, while the advisory board was created to hear feedback from students from around the state.

Juneau says she'll bring a bill to the next legislation to raise the drop out age from 16 to 18 years old.

She says, “We have a lot of work to do with the next Legislature. One of those areas that we really need to work on is adequate funding for schools. For the first time in many, many years, we’ve seen state funding slide and local property taxes increase, and so there’s a lot of work to be done on making sure that schools get adequately funded next time.”

Republican Sandy Welch will be opposing Juneau for the position.

And, I should add, creating a 'student advisory board" is the lamest excuse for an "accomplishment" I have ever heard from a politician.

Its odd that someone running for re-election would not be able to list a single accomplishment from the years they have already served in office. Was this because she needs new campaign advisers or because the accomplishments don't exist?
