Killer Grizzly's Cubs Settling Into Montana Zoo

By The Associated Press

BILLINGS, Mont. - Three grizzly cubs that were removed from the wild after their mother mauled three campers appear to be warming up to their new home in a Montana zoo.

ZooMontana director Jackie Worstell said Tuesday that the bears are skinny and they're still wearing their ragged winter coats, but they've calmed down since the shock of being captured and losing their mother.

Their 221-pound mother killed Kevin Kammer, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and wounded campers from Colorado and Ontario last week at the Soda Butte campground near Yellowstone National Park. The sow was euthanized Friday.

The cubs will be kept in quarantine for 30 days in a cement enclosure next to another newcomer at the Billings zoo: a 2-year-old male grizzly named Ozzie that scavenged food from tourists at Yellowstone.

I agree with Sport. What do people expect wild animals to act like when you get close to their babies? If I felt a bear was threatening my baby, I would shoot it.

It makes me sick to think you would kill a mother bear who was protecting her cubs. I don't care that she killed a person, the people chose to intrude into her life, she did not go on a trip to intrude on humans. This is wrong, terribly, terribly wrong. W

I wish we could euthanize murderers and drug dealers as easy as we can euthanize animals. It would save soo much money in the long run.
