Local Card Games Hope to Gain in Online Stoppage

With access to online sites like Pokerstars, Absolute Poker, and Full Tilt Poker, halted in the United States for the time being, poker players in Montana are looking for places to gamble. And that's good news for live card game owners like Mike Novak of The Sting Poker Room, who continues to look for ways to grow his business.

“Poker is much like any other community. It’s its own community. And word of mouth does get around,” said Novak.

And though Novak has seen his business slowly build over the years through word of mouth, he's hoping the online slowdown could cause a spike in customer traffic.

“You have those folks that play strictly online, and as a card room operator, I hope to pick up those guys as clients.”

And while these online poker sites are facing federal fraud charges and money laundering penalties... Montana residents could also be breaking state regulations, just by playing online.
Steven Potts, Attorney at Law, says, “If a person is gambling sitting in front of their computer in Montana, they need to worry about whether or not they are acting within state law.”
And Novak is hoping to pick up the slack for the players looking for a place to play. “I know folks that like to play poker will find a place to play… whether it’s online of here in our poker room.”
