No Kid Hungry Seeks to End Child Hunger

Governor Schweitzer is teaming up with America’s leading child anti hunger organization, Share Our Strength, and the Department of Public Health and Human Services to try to end child hunger in Montana.

No Kid Hungry is a public-private partnership that will offer healthy meals to Montana children through afterschool and supplemental nutrition assistance programs.

One in five children is at risk of hunger in the Treasure State.

Share Our Strength has invested $145,000 in the partnership to aid local and state organizations.

Tom Nelson, President of Share Our Strength, says, “The real tragedy is not only do we have children who are at risk of going to bed hungry, but we’ve got the food to feed them. And what this program is about is putting those pieces together; children with the food they need.”

Governor Schweitzer says, “People say, ‘Well, that’s not up to government to be involved in this.’ Well some people agree. That’s why this is a public-private partnership.”

The program was officially launched today.
