Helena Man Drowns Near Tower Rock State Park

By KFBB News Team

A 68-year-old Helena man is dead after a drowning near Tower Rock State Park.

The first call for help came in at around 3:45 this afternoon, for a drowning victim at 73 Tower Rock Road.

The Cascade Fire Department, QRUs, and Cascade County Search and Rescue were called in to help.

Officials say the man was in a raft with three other people, when it hit the pillar of a bridge and capsized.

The man, who wasn't wearing a life jacket, was carried about a quarter of a mile down the river.

Newschannel 5 spoke with other canoeists who stopped to help and call in the emergency. They say residents near the area performed CPR before Mercy Flight arrived, but it was too late.

Newschannel 5 is expecting more information on this tomorrow, and will keep you posted with any updates.
