Smokin' Grass Drags Raises Money for Food Bank

Another group gathered today to raise money for the Food Bank in a very unique and noisy way. The 6th Annual Smokin’ Grass Drags featured snowmobiles and ATV races across grass.

The event is sponsored by the Great Falls Snowmobile Club. Money raised at the event will go toward the club and the Food Bank.

Racers from Canada, Idaho, Washington and Montana all raced at the event. The races were broken up into different classes and some snowmobiles were able to go over 100 miles per hour on the 500 foot long track.

Club member, Sharon Virgin, says this time of the year it’s especially important to donate to the Food Bank. “We want to support one of our local charities. And at this time of the year and with what’s going on in the world, giving any extra help we can to local community programs is a wonderful thing,” she says.

If you missed the event today, you can catch it tomorrow starting at 9 am on a field close to the KOA on 51st Street. Organizers say they are looking for more racers, if you want to race your snowmobile just show up before 9 am.

Admission for spectators is $7 or $5 with a can of food for the Food Bank. Concessions are also available.
