The Search for Missing Teacher Sherry Arnold

By KFBB News Team

A search continues today for a missing teacher in Sidney. Authorities say Sherry Arnold is now listed as a missing person. Law enforcement and hundreds of volunteers are desperately seeking to find any clues as to what may have happened.

More than 300 people from Sidney and neighboring areas are searching for 43-year-old Sherry Arnold.

Sidney Police say she was last seen at home at 6:30 AM Saturday before her run but she never returned.

Pilot Bryan Prevost is flying his private plane throughout the area looking for signs of her.

"I flew the river from north to south, east side of the banks, then we flew some different drainage ditches and whatnot by the canal. Then I landed about 12 o'clock today and I didn't see nothing. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack,” says Prevost.

Search and rescue teams are using three canine units, a helicopter, and private planes. About 40 Montana Army National Guard soldiers are also looking for Arnold.

"We'll keep looking and we'll maintain looking until we've exhausted all of our resources, which hasn't happened yet,” says Bob Burnison with the Sidney Police Department.

So far they have recovered a running shoe identified as Arnold's near the Sidney Truck Route but the search isn't easy.

"You're looking for something out of the ordinary, something that stands out. She had some red pants on I believe and so you got to look for something that's just out of the norm,” says Burnison.

Officer Burnison says he can't remember this happening before in Sidney but times are changing due to the Bakken oil boom.
"We have a lot more people so we've had a lot more calls. And things are up than normal. But we have a lot more people in our area,” adds Burnison.

Meanwhile, Prevost plans to continue the search Monday. "It kind of makes you sick to your stomach that somebody was out jogging, minding their own business, and something or somebody or whoever had to do this to an innocent person. It's just not right... And a small town like this, it just don't happen. And so everybody's really pulling together and they're trying to make the best of a bad situation,” says Prevost.

Arnold has taught math in Sidney for about 18 years and her Facebook page says she even graduated from there.
Sidney schools will remain in session on Monday as normal.

They will have a variety of counselors available for students and staff.
