United Way Offers Free Tax Help

Today, the United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area held an event to offer free tax help.

A number of representatives from community organizations explained their services and shared how they can help low income wage earners and senior citizens in the Helena area.

The United Way says in previous years, more than 4,000 people filed for the Earned Income Tax Credit, producing over $6 million in returns.

Tim McCauley, Director of United Way of Lewis and Clark Area, says, “It’s really beneficial to a number people to make sure that they take advantage of all the tax credits that they have; also it’s just a simplified way of doing it and the ability to get the tax returns back into their own hands. It’s a very effective and efficient system.”

Tax Help Montana has two sites available this tax season: No appointment necessary
• UM-Helena College of Technology at 115 Roberts St. across from Helena High on Saturdays from 9 am to 1pm
• The Good Samaritan Store at 3067 N. Montana Ave. every Monday and Thursday from 1 pm to 7 pm
AARP Tax-Aide has two sites for low to moderate income seniors by appointment only
• The Helena Senior Center on Thursdays from 9 am to noon, call 457-7318
• The Lewis and Clark Library on Saturdays from 9 am to noon, call 457-7318

Montana Credit Union Sites by appointment only
• Trico Community Federal Credit Union, 2910 Prospect Avenue, call 442-1421 x100
• Helena Community Credit Union, 915 Kessler Street, call 495-6071
