Gov. Schweitzer and State Legislature Reach Compromise On Budget

By KFBB News Team

Breaking news out of Helena; Governor Schweitzer and the state legislature have finally reached a deal on the budget.

Schweitzer, along with Senate President Jim Peterson and House Speaker Mike Milburn, announced tonight that the two sides have struck a compromise on House Bill Two, thereby avoiding the possibility of special session.

The agreement restores the $100 million dollars of federal funding that republicans had initially refused to include, yet it included enough cuts in general fund spending for the GOP to accept the changes.

Both Milburn and Peterson are confident their caucuses will accept the compromise. They believe the deal will be finalized quickly once the legislature reconvenes on Tuesday.
