Rehberg Says Reaction to Senate Run has been Positive; Tester Responds to Announcement

By KFBB News Team

Representative Denny Rehberg officially announced his candidacy last night at an event in Helena, for the U.S. Senate in 2012. Rehberg spoke with NewsChannel 5 and he says the reaction to his announcement has been very positive and he has a vision for a more secure future for Montana.

Rehberg says the plans to run for Senate became real after watching the State of the Union Speech and reflecting on the bi-partisan nature of watching Republicans and Democrats sit together. He says “they” just don’t get it and by “they” he is referring to Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and President Barack Obama.

Another problem he wants to fight is the over trillion dollar deficit he says our nation has faced the past three years in a row. He says government spending needs to get under control and his call to action for less federal government and more local government will be a winning ticket.

“Well clearly there are differences in philosophy there’s one philosophy which has been in governance for the last two, four, six years in the United States Congress and that is that government is the solution, that you can spend your way into prosperity and they’ve tried their failed politics. The stimulus that did not work, “Obamacare,” which will in fact bankrupt the health care provision within America and the spending that is out of control. I want the state of Montana to have a choice and so I bring a differing philosophy that government is not the solution it’s the problem,” says Rehberg.

Rehberg says as newly-appointed Chairman of a House ppropriations sub-committee that deals with about a quarter of federal spending he will have the opportunity to tackle the budget and defund, as he refers to is, “Obamacare.”

And in response to last night’s big announcement, Senator Jon Tester says he welcomes other candidates to the race but with 21 months until the election, he’s going to continue to focus on the job at hand.

“We’re going to continue to work on things that move Montana forward and work for things to make Montana as good as it can be. Bottom line is whoever it is, I’m running for the Senate I’m not running against anybody, but whoever it might be that we end up running against, I look forward to comparing records. We’ll compare records against anybody else and a record of getting things done,” says Senator Jon Tester.

NewsChannel 5 will continue to bring your complete coverage as we move into the 2012 election.
