Man charged with vehicular assault in crashMISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — An 18-year-old Missoula man is charged with felony negligent vehicular assault for a weekend crash that badly injured a 16-year-old girl. The Missoulian reports Daniel G. Newport also was charged in Justice Court Tuesday with driving without a license or liability insurance. He was jailed on $25,000 bail. Prosecutors say Newport told authorities that he and his passenger had been drinking alcohol and various locations Friday night and early Saturday before the crash in which the car rolled several times in a gully and then flipped end-over-end. Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Philip Smart said Saturday the girl was in serious condition and was being treated in intensive care. Smart says Newport's blood-alcohol level was above 0.08 and he found marijuana paraphernalia in and around the car. ___ Information from: Missoulian, http://www.missoulian.com |
