GREAT FALLS - A 22-year-old Great Falls man has been charged with negligent homicide in the shooting death of an acquaintance.

Jonathan Higgins made an initial court appearance Tuesday morning. Higgins is charged with shooting a 20-year-old man with a .40 caliber handgun at a house party Monday evening. The victim died a short time later at the hospital. The victim's name was being withheld until his family could be notified.

Sgt. Jim Wells says the report originally came in as an accidental discharge of a gun, but after interviewing witnesses police arrested Higgins.
