KALISPELL - A 38-year-old Columbia Falls man has been cited for careless driving after a school bus carrying 33 students was run off the road.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Ed Sievers says the Columbia Falls school district bus was northbound on Montana 206 Monday morning when an oncoming pickup truck crossed the center line. The bus driver swerved into the ditch to avoid a collision, but kept the bus upright.

The 67-year-old bus driver was taken to a Whitefish hospital with minor injuries and one student complained of a bump on the head. Sievers says someone traveling behind the pickup was able to read a company name and phone number on the pickup, which helped the patrol track down Bill Johnson, who was cited.

GF may double parking meter fees from 25 to 50 cents an hour. What do you think?

  • They need the money & I can afford it.
  • Another reason for me not to shop downtown.
  • A smaller increase will keep me shopping downtown.
  • Toss the meters, parking should be free.
