Public meetings planned after fuel spill

POLSON - The state DOT will hold two public meetings in June to discuss large truck traffic on Montana 35. That's where a tanker truck crashed and spilled thousands of gallons of gasoline.

Calls to limit the types of trucks and the cargo they're allowed to carry on the narrow highway intensified April 2nd when a tanker truck overturned in a ditch and released almost 6,400 gallons of gasoline near Flathead Lake. Some residents on the east shore of lake want traffic to be diverted to the wider U.S. Highway 93.

But representatives of the trucking industry say they'll oppose any efforts to impose limits on Montana 35 because it would obstruct interstate commerce.

The meetings will be held June 4th in Kalispell and June 5th in Polson.
