HELENA - The Montana Supreme Court has appointed two new members to fill vacant positions on its Gender Fairness Commission.

They are Jennifer Brandon of Bozeman and William D'Alton of Billings. Brandon serves as the clerk of District Court in Gallatin County, and D'Alton is a lawyer with the Brown Law Firm. Their terms will expire in July 2011.

The high court also has reappointed three commission members whose terms have expired. They are Michael Best, Shelley Hopkins and Chairwoman Julianne Burkhardt. Their terms will expire in July 2010. In 1999, the high court created a task force to assess whether gender bias exists in the Montana legal system and make recommendations for eliminating it.

The Gender Fairness Commission was created the following year to develop proposals for implementing the task force's recommendations.
