HELENA - The Barack Obama campaign says that it is offering free tickets to those who want to attend a picnic in Butte with the Democratic presidential candidate.

Obama and his family are celebrating the Fourth of July at the city's parade. Friday is also his daughter Malia's 10th birthday. Obama is scheduled to attend the Butte parade in the morning. He will be holding a picnic later at Montana Tech.

The campaign says tickets will be needed to attend the picnic. The tickets are available in Butte Thursday morning at the Venus Rising Espresso House on Main Street. The Obama campaign is ramping up again in Montana after its primary win over Hillary Clinton in early June.

Obama says he expects to compete with rival John McCain in traditional red states like Montana, and challenge the dominance Republican presidential candidates have held there.

GF may double parking meter fees from 25 to 50 cents an hour. What do you think?

  • They need the money & I can afford it.
  • Another reason for me not to shop downtown.
  • A smaller increase will keep me shopping downtown.
  • Toss the meters, parking should be free.
