ENNIS - A Bozeman man survived an airplane crash on Ennis Lake after he failed to pull up the landing gear on his lightweight float plane.

The Madison County sheriff says David Jarrett was landing his Sea Ray aircraft on the lake north of Ennis on Wednesday morning when he forgot to pull up the wheels. Sheriff Dave Schenk says the aircraft ended up on its top in the water and its nose was badly damaged. He says Jarrett was wearing a floatation device and able to get out.

Donald Burright is a tourist staying in Ennis. He saw the crash and says that, within minutes, someone on a personal watercraft raced to the airplane and pulled Jarrett from the water. Schenk says the rescuer was one of the construction workers building Jarrett's house on the south end of the lake.
