Charges dropped against former Three Forks marshal

By The Associated Press

BOZEMAN - Charges against a former Three Forks marshal accused of providing alcohol to minors at a graduation party have been dismissed.

Richard Schillinger was a marshal when he and his wife were charged in 2004 with four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. That's after a witness said minors were drinking at a party held at his house.

Schillinger said the event was an engagement party held for his friends and he asked minors not to attend. He said some arrived at his house anyway, intoxicated.

In 2005, a justice court in Madison County dismissed all of the charges against Schillinger's wife but convicted Schillinger of one count of endangering the welfare of a child. He appealed all the way to the state supreme court. The high court sent the case back to District Court. But before the judge could hear the case, the Three Forks city attorney filed a motion to dismiss.
