UM to host Buddy Defranco Jazz Festival

MISSOULA - Legendary jazz musician Buddy DeFranco will return to the University of Montana for the UM Music Department's 29th annual jazz festival Friday and Saturday, April 24-25.

For the past nine years the event has been called the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival to honor the celebrated jazz clarinetist. Each year DeFranco visits Missoula to collaborate with the UM jazz program and world-class jazz artists at the two-day festival. The festival's clinics provide educational opportunities for hundreds of aspiring jazz musicians, and the concerts entertain thousands of jazz lovers.

This year's featured artists are Benny Golson on tenor saxophone, Dave Samuels on vibes and marimba, drummer Steve Smith and trumpet player Randy Sandke. All festival events will be held in the University Theater. For more information on the UM Jazz Festival: http://www.umt.edu/defrancojazz
