Toddler dies after being struck by pickup truck

HELENA - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a pickup truck in East Helena.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Andrew Knapp says the boy was playing in front of a house just north of East Helena on Monday evening when he was struck by a vehicle that was leaving the residence.

Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson says the boy, Jusdes Gelina, died of traumatic internal head injuries at St. Peter's Hospital.

A witness says the boy ran up to the truck in the middle of the dirt road and began to tap the side of the vehicle with his hands. Knapp says the boy was knocked over by the front wheel of the truck and run over by the rear wheel.

The name of the driver hasn't been released.
