MISSOULA - Missoula police are investigating the death of a 31-year-old woman who died while in custody at the Missoula County jail.

Undersheriff Jerry Crego says a jailer found the woman Friday evening and she was taken to the hospital at about 9:30 p.m., where she was pronounced dead. Crego says the woman's name was being withheld while family members were notified.

The woman had been in custody for about 36 hours on a probation violation. Crego said Saturday that he did not remember the crime for which she was on probation and did not have access to those records from home.

The woman did not have a cellmate.
