HELENA - Services are being planned for a former Helena woman who was killed by a stray bullet as she walked with a friend in Oakland, California.

Police say 29-year-old Traci Spangler, who was living in Oakland, was killed June 27 when someone opened fire on a man who was nearby. The bullet missed the man and struck both women.

Spangler, who graduated from Helena High School in 1998, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Her friend was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

News reports said investigators had not made any arrests in the case as of Sunday afternoon. Oakland police did not return calls Tuesday. Spangler's mother, Joni Brooks, says the Helena service will probably be held July 18.
