Hunter shoots charging grizzly bear near Choteau

By The Associated Press

GREAT FALLS - The Teton County Sheriff's office says a pheasant hunter shot and killed a charging female grizzly bear about 10 miles northwest of Choteau.

Undersheriff Denny Blauer says the grizzly, which had three cubs, charged the man in heavy brush Monday afternoon after being surprised when the hunter came around a corner. The man says the bear was about three feet away when he shot it in the head with a .12-gauge shotgun.

Blauer says neither the bear nor the hunter was at fault because "the bear was trying to protect her cubs and the guy just reacted to a threat."

when in grizzly country you take your chances, people should choose to be learn proper conduct in bear country, we need more land set aside so bears can live in peace.

I agree. I've hunted in that area and I've talked to many of the locals. There are more bears there than is being reported. They're becoming a problem.

It's time for a Grizzly Season to thin them beasts out. They're nothing but a menace to the people of Montana.
