Snowmobile trails get grooming

MISSOULA - A new trail groomer will be used to maintain about 400 miles of snow trails around Lolo Pass, thanks to some funding from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks' snowmobile program.

Don Phillips with the Missoula Snowgoers snowmobile club says the $200,000 machine should be delivered this weekend, and the grooming will help maintain a trail system popular with snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and other recreationists.

The money from the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department comes from snowmobile registration fees and a portion of the state gas tax.

The department's trails grant coordinator, Jason White, says about 25 snowmobile clubs and state and federal agencies cooperate to maintain trails throughout the state.
