DILLON - A 27-year-old Dillon man convicted of assaults on two girlfriends and for arranging to have a third deliver drugs to him in jail has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Brian Rand was sentenced Tuesday by District Judge Loren Tucker. Rand pleaded guilty to kidnapping one girlfriend for allegedly preventing her from leaving the house after he shot a .22-caliber rifle over her head. He was earlier sentenced to five years in prison for raping another girlfriend and also pleaded guilty to three drug charges after convincing a third girlfriend to deliver prescription drugs to him in jail by sewing them into the waist bands of underwear.

State probation and parole officer Claris Yuhas recommended a 40-year jail term and Beaverhead County Attorney Jed Fitch argued that Rand couldn't be rehabilitated.

Rand's attorney, J.B. Anderson, said his client needed treatment for substance abuse.
