Brockton mayor arrested in Fort Peck drug bust

By The Associated Press

GREAT FALLS - Authorities say 32 suspects, including the mayor of Brockton, will remain in jail on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation over Thanksgiving as they await arraignment on charges of trafficking prescription drugs.

A spokesman for the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Department says Mayor Benjamin "Benny" Johnson was arrested Tuesday on felony charges of complicity in the sale of dangerous drugs.

Johnson is accused of selling two 30 milligram morphine sulfate pills for $70 on Aug. 5.

He joins 31 other suspects named in warrants issued by the Fort Peck tribal court last week following an eight-month investigation.

They were arrested Monday by a team of about 50 law enforcement officers from Roosevelt, Sheridan, Daniels, Richland and Valley counties.

Five other suspects arrested Monday were arraigned and bailed out on bonds ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.
