79 pot plants seized from Wolf Creek property

By The Associated Press

HELENA - A 54-year-old Missoula man faces felony drug charges after authorities seized 79 marijuana plants and four pounds of pot from a property in Wolf Creek.

Devin Wayne Piper is being held at the Lewis and Clark County jail on charges of criminal production or manufacture of dangerous drugs and criminal possession with intent to sell. His bail has been set at $50,000.

On Friday, a state game warden who was investigating possible illegal hunting learned about a grow operation inside a shop on the property and contacted the Missouri River Drug Task Force. A search turned up 40 fully grown and 45 starter marijuana plants.

Investigators learned Piper's brother, who lives in California, has a permit that allows him to have six marijuana plants for medical reasons. Sheriff Leo Dutton says the brother's legal amount of 1 ounce and six plants along with grow equipment was left in the shop.
