East Helena man found guilty of molesting family

EAST HELENA - A jury has convicted a 39-year-old East Helena man of two counts of incest after a weeklong trial.

Prosecutors said the man molested two family members, a young girl and an adolescent boy.

The man's attorneys argued the children made false accusations during an acrimonious divorce, but the jury rejected that argument and found the man guilty. He is set for sentencing on May 21.

The Associated Press does not generally release names of victims of sexual crimes; the man's name is being withheld to protect the identity of his victims.

I hope there is solid evidence and not just the testimony of the children. It would hardly be the first time that law enforcement officials mislead children into making false accusations against a parent. The kids often don't even realize that they are being coached to say the right words in front of a jury. It seems rather suspicious that this didn't come to light until the divorce. If the guy really is guilty, there are some people in the prison waiting to give him a special greeting.
