Big Sky Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

OGDEN, UTAH (Sept. 26, 2011) - The Big Sky Conference has selected its football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 24. Weber State quarterback Mike Hoke and Sacramento State QB Jeff Fleming are the Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Montana State defensive end Caleb Schreibeis and Northern Arizona defensive end Isaac Bond are the Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Montana State kicker Jason Cunningham is the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hoke, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior from Kailua, Hawai’i, was nearly flawless in Weber State’s 45-21 road win over Northern Colorado. Hoke completed 20-of-25 passes for 280 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. He finished the game with an efficiency rating of 240.1. Hoke threw four TD passes in the first half as the Wildcats raced out to a 35-0 lead. Three of his TD passes were caught by Shaydon Kehano, including a 57-yarder in the second quarter. Hoke has thrown 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions this season. He has not thrown an interception in 160 pass attempts dating back to the 2009 season. This is his first Player of the Week honor.

Fleming, a 6-4, 200-pound senior from Fullerton, Calif., accounted for four touchdowns and 279 yards of total offense as Sacramento State beat Montana 42-28, the Hornets’ first win in 17 tries against the Grizzlies. Fleming completed 17-of-27 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions He also rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Fleming scored on runs of 9 and 7 yards in the first half, and tossed TD passes for 9 and 37 yards. This is Fleming’s third career Player of the Week honor.

Schreibeis, a 6-3, 246-pound junior from Billings, Mont., tied the team high with 10 tackles – three for loss – with two sacks and a quarterback hurry in Montana State’s 36-21 road win over defending national champion Eastern Washington. Schreibeis had five solo stops. Both of his sacks came on third downs, forcing Eastern Washington punts. Schreibeis helped the Bobcats to their first win in Cheney since 1990. It also ended Eastern Washington’s eight-game winning streak on the red turf. This is his first Player of the Week Honor.

Bond, a 6-4, 260-pound senior from Vancouver, Wash., spearheaded a stout Northern Arizona defense in its 20-3 home win over Idaho State with two sacks, four tackles, and a forced fumble. On a third-quarter sack of ISU quarterback Kevin Yost, Bond forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Blayne Anderson. Northern Arizona amassed 10 sacks, and held Yost to 163 passing yards. Yost entered the game averaging a national-best 394.3 passing yards per game, and 405.5 yards of total offense per game.

Cunningham, a 6-1, 180-pound senior from Amarillo, Texas, made five field goals, including two from 55 yards out in Montana State’s 36-21 victory over Eastern Washington. The All-American drilled a 55-yarder with 13:27 to play in the second quarter to put the Bobcat ahead 10-7. He closed the half with another 55-yarder go put MSU up 20-14. Cunningham added field goals of 31 and 32 yards in the third quarter, and closed with a 43-yarder in the fourth quarter. Cunningham also made three extra points to finish the game with 18 points. The 55-yarders tied his previous career long. This is his second career Player of the Week award.
