Carroll Football Recaps Their Last Game

By Dominic Shelden

Things might have started off a little slow as Rocky was the first to score, but as soon as the cobwebs wore off, the Saints started rolling.

“Coach Howlett (Offensive Coordinator) didn’t waver from the game plan. He wanted to run chance. They thought they could throw the football well, and I thought our protection was great on offense. That was really the key to the whole day,” Says Head Coach Mike Van Diest.

“Well our offense gave up a quick touchdown, but I think our defense came out and responded well. Got a three and out on the first couple drives, and our offense came out and ran the ball well. Chance did a great job, our O-line did a great job, and Dane (Broadhead) really recovered from that Pick,” Says Carroll Junior Linebacker Joe Dunning.

The Saints had 7 players with receptions and 7 players with positive running yards. A lot of those were new faces, and it’s all helped the balanced Carroll attack.

“A lot of those guys are freshman red-shirts playing in their first college game. Whether it was (Jared) Mayernick, (Drew) Clausen, (Anthony) Clarke, Jordan Pine at running back, Trey Infanger caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter- We got a lot of young kids game experience,” Says Van Diest.

“We also had the same thing on defense, not so many freshman, but we had quite a few people who don’t have as much game experience that got a lot of playing time. I know Siegersma, Michael Siegersma-that was his first game at corner, and he did a great job,” Says Dunning.

“We can give the ball to chance, he’s going to give you a great effort on the ground as you see, all the receivers we have, it’s just different targets for Dane to hit,” Says Junior TE Anthony Hogan.
