Carroll Volleyball Off to a Scorching Start

By Dominic Shelden

While the Carroll football team is known for their winning ways, the Carroll Volleyball team is off to a hot start themselves. After playing ten games in nearly two weeks, the Saints are undefeated in NAIA play and have defeated several highly ranked teams.

“This past week and a half almost has flown by so fast, ten games, week in a half-it’s gone by so fast, we’ve just watched the new girls coming in improve a ton," Says Senior Outside Hitter Kristin Telin.

Those new players were a bit of an unknown coming into the season. They were counted on early to contribute, and with so many faces, chemistry was somewhat of a concern.

“Everyone’s meshing real well, our chemistry is like really great, it’s really neat to see how many new faces we have, and the chemistry that’s already established," Says Senior Middle Hitter Markki Otteson.

“It’s been really good. A lot of times when you have a lot of new girls on a team, I think it’s hard to adjust with everyone, but we’ve done really well. All the Freshmen are playing a huge role. On the right side we have a couple Freshman doing a great job on the outside," Says Sophomore Middle Hitter (And Weber State Transfer) Elli Graff.

This Past weekend, the Saints played in a Junior College tournament in Southern Idaho, and came away with valuable experience against top athletes.

“We’re playing against a lot of international players who are in their 20s, closer to their 30s, so we’re getting some experience too playing against some very veteran players. We played number 1, number 3, number 5 in the country this weekend, and we beat two of those three teams," Says Head Coach Maureen "Moe" Boyle.

With a 6-0 NAIA record and confidence and chemistry at an all-time high, expecations are just as high, if not more-so.

“I think we should win from here on out, I have no doubt about it that we can. I think we can, and I think we should," Says Graff.

“A hundred percent right now. We need all out-no balls dropping, just having fun, enjoying every single second. As a fifth-year senior, I want to enjoy every moment of every game of every practice with my teammates and all the girls, and we have a lot to accomplish this season," Says Telin.
